Statement

Origin of the form

The degrees of a triangle's angles can evoke many different feelings like stability, greatness, strength, edginess, humility and dynamic speed. These are qualities I both enjoy and admire. I aimed to craft angles and shapes that please both my eyes and my emotions, reflecting the qualities I feel within. I like to create forms that are not easy to grasp, which for me brings a sense of endlessness and freedom.

When I observe structures and paintings I often engage with them using my whole body, almost mirroring their forms. This gives me a profound sense of the character they portray or remind me of. I believe that things we see awaken something inside us and affect us in various ways. So I strive to create forms that reflect the qualities I appreciate. In the process of creating this work I have relied on my emotional state, intuition and spontaneity. I selected the materials for their softness and warmth to contrast with the sharp edges. I believe folded paper conveys a natural, lively quality, especially as it is crafted from a single piece with minimal direction, an approach that gives the paper room to express itself.

The inclination from the corner to the top of Saturum is 37 degrees. I discovered this by using the pyramids of Giza as a starting point, where the inclination is 42 degrees, to determine the character I wanted for my angle. I chose 37 degrees as it gave me the right balance of stability and dynamism, and the sense of greatness. The top is left open to avoid a sense of closure and instead create an impression of openness. To add depth, I designed structures that move inward towards the center of the pyramid, while other parts extend outward, surpassing the wooden frame. The varying angles and depths, along with the repeating origami pattern, make it a complex and intriguing piece to observe. Saturum has a presence and creates an atmosphere in the room as an extension of its lines and structures.

The name

Sat is the structure, Urum is the atmosphere

When I created Saturum, I was exploring ideas of greatness, fullness and strength, something that felt substantial, complete and richly present.

The name came from looking at the form and translating what I saw into sound. Sat comes from the lines and structure of the shape. Urum comes from completing it. It represents the wholeness that emerges when the form becomes more than its individual lines and structures. For me, wholeness means creating an atmosphere, an overall feeling of strength, harmony and presence.

There is also a connection to Latin. Saturum, from satur, relates to being full, abundant, fulfilled or satisfied. Interestingly, when I created the name, I did not know that Saturum was an existing Latin word. I discovered this connection afterward, and found it meaningful because it connects to what I was exploring at the time: quality, fullness, mass, strength and the feeling of something being complete, not lacking anything.

Saturum therefore brings together structure and atmosphere, form and feeling, into one idea of wholeness.

Front cloth and frame

A front and frame you can change

The acoustic front is a user-replaceable textile cover. We have selected Eli by Nobilis Paris: a linen-look ivory sheer, flame-retardant, woven in Italy. It softens the cabinet without hiding its form.

Other weaves and colors can also be ordered, making it possible for the object to grow with you.

Both the textile and frame can be renewed without replacing the whole object.

More wood species and textiles will be available for custom orders.
